Summary | The enzyme catalyzes, in a reversible manner, the terminal phosphate exchange between different nucleoside diphosphates (NDPs) and triphosphates (NTPs) to generate nucleoside triphosphates. |
Description | Nucleoside Diphosphate Kinase is produced by submerged fermentation followed by separation, ultrafiltration and formulation. The enzyme catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate group between adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and nucleoside diphosphate (NDP) to maintain the NTP concentration in the cells of organisms. |
Mechanism | Nucleoside diphosphate kinase is an enzyme that catalyzes, in a reversible manner, the terminal phosphate exchange between different nucleoside diphosphates (NDPs) and triphosphates (NTPs) to generate nucleoside triphosphates. Many NDPs serve as acceptors, while NTP serves as the donor of the phosphate group. The general reaction via a ping-pong mechanism is as follows: XDP + YTP ←→ XTP + YDP (where X and Y represent different nitrogenous bases). Nucleoside diphosphate kinase maintains the balance between different nucleoside triphosphate levels, for example, when guanosine triphosphate (GTP) generated in the citric acid cycle is converted to adenosine triphosphate (ATP). |
Advantages | Catalyze the terminal phosphate exchange between different nucleoside diphosphates; maintain the NTP concentration in the cells of organisms. |
Application | For NTP generation |
