Product Information

Application Used for isolation and differentiation of Clostridium perfringens from foodstuffs on the basis of cotton seed sugar fermentation.
Principle Proteose peptone and yeast extract supply nitrogenous compounds and other nutrients. Sodium thioglycollate ensures anaerobic conditions. Disodium phosphate acts as a buffer. Raffinose is specifically fermented by C. perfringens to produce acid within 72 hours. Acid production is tested by adding bromothymol blue, turning the medium yellow.

Formulation (/L) Proteose peptone 15.0 g
Yeast extract 4.0 g
Sodium thioglycollate 1.0 g
Disodium phosphate 10.0 g
Raffinose 4.0 g
Directions Add 34 g to 1000 ml distilled water and mix well. Heat if necessary to dissolve the medium completely. Autoclave at 15 pounds pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Dispense into sterile tubes. Check one or both tubes to measure pH.

Storage

Keep in airtight containers below 30°C. Prepared media is kept at 2-8°C.
