Product Information

Application Based on the oxidative and fermentative metabolism of carbohydrates, this product allows the differentiation of marine bacteria.
Principle Marine bacteria exhibit different reactions: carbohydrate-fermenting types turn both tubes (covered and uncovered) from red to yellow; carbohydrate-oxidizing types change only the uncovered tube. Non-oxidative, non-fermentative types do not change color and show an alkaline (red to deep pink) reaction in the uncovered medium.

Directions Suspend 22.14 g in 1000 ml of purified/distilled water. Heat to boiling to completely dissolve the medium. Autoclave at 15 pounds pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C and aseptically add sterile glucose solution (or other carbohydrate of choice) to a final concentration of 1%. Mix well and dispense into sterile test tubes.

Storage

Keep in airtight containers at 10-30°C. Prepared media is kept at 15-30°C.
