Summary Laccase is used in pulp & paper industry to remove lignin from pulp or raw materials to improve pulp whiteness and improve the wet strength of pulp. It can also be used in deinking, wastewater treatment.
Description Laccase, a polyphenol oxidase (ρ-dihydric phenol oxidase, EC1.10.3.2) containing four copper ions, belongs to the copper blue oxidase family and is present as a monomeric glycoprotein. Laccase is found in fungi, bacteria, and plants, and primarily acts on phenol-like compounds, performing one-electron oxidation. These compounds include phenols and their derivatives, aromatic amines and their derivatives, and biological pigments. Laccase can be utilized in the paper industry to remove lignin from pulp or raw materials to enhance pulp whiteness. It is also applicable for deinking, wastewater treatment, and improving the wet strength of pulp.
