Catalog Number FM-2265

Product Name Fermentation Medium for Neisseriae

Aspect Light yellow to light pink powder

Product Information

Application The product is used to study the fermentation reactions of Neisseria.
Principle Tryptone provides necessary nitrogenous nutrients. L-Cystine acts as both an amino acid source and a reducing agent, removing molecular oxygen to prevent peroxide accumulation. Agar reduces convection currents, maintaining anaerobic conditions. Sodium chloride preserves osmotic balance. Phenol red, turning yellow at acidic pH, indicates carbohydrate oxidation. Pink color indicates peptone degradation. Neisseria species produce acids near the inoculated area, causing potential medium-wide yellowing if contaminants are present.
pH 7.5±0.1
Colour and Clarity of Prepared Medium Straw, clear to slightly milky gel
