Description EdU (5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine) is a thymine nucleoside analog with an attached alkynyl group that is rare in natural compounds, and is able to replace thymine (T) in replicating DNA molecules during cell proliferation. By labeling newly synthesized EdU-containing DNA with fluorescent groups based on the specific conjugation of EdU with a fluorescent dye, this allows for efficient and rapid detection of DNA replication activity.
