Summary | Choline kinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the first reaction in the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the choline pathway |
Description | Choline Kinase is produced by submerged fermentation followed by separation, ultrafiltration and formulation. Choline kinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the first reaction in the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the choline pathway, using adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as the phosphate donor to phosphorylate choline. |
Mechanism | Choline kinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the first reaction in the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the choline pathway. The reaction involves the transfer of a phosphate group from adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to choline, forming phosphocholine. Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are ATP and choline, while its two products are adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and O-phosphocholine. Choline kinase requires magnesium ion (+2) as a cofactor for this reaction. This enzyme belongs to the transferase family, specifically those enzymes (phosphotransferases) that transfer phosphate groups to acceptors with alcohol groups. |
