Bio-based PLA

Polylactic acid, or PLA for short, is a common biodegradable polymer made by polymerizing lactic acid monomers. Bio-based PLA material is a polyester made of lactic acid molecules. The lactic acid required for polymerization is mainly produced by fermenting carbohydrates (sugar, starch) from renewable raw materials such as sugar cane or corn. PLA is a thermoplastic polyester made from renewable biomass such as corn, beets or sugar cane. Under moist and warm conditions, Bio-based PLA can be hydrolyzed. The lactic acid produced can serve as food for bacteria and fungi. Bio-based PLA is widely used in packaging materials, textiles, medical devices, 3D printing and other fields. PLA has the following characteristics:

  • Environmentally friendly: Because it comes from renewable resources and can be degraded under industrial composting conditions, it has little impact on the environment.
  • Good processability: It can be processed by a variety of methods, such as injection molding, extrusion and 3D printing.
  • High safety: Bio-based PLA material has good biocompatibility, so it is increasingly used in the medical field.
